Infertility Diagnosis and Testing

For starters, know that you are not alone. Infertility affects 1 in 8 couples in the United States. Infertility may have many causes. The causes of infertility can be classified as female factor, male factor, combined or unexplained.

Women who are under 35 and healthy should try to get pregnant for a year before seeing a fertility specialist while women who are over 35 should see one after 6 months of trying to conceive.

However, if you or your partner have a history of any of the following health conditions, you should take a fertility test sooner than a year if you’re under 35 and sooner than six months if you’re over 35

  • Irregular periods
  • Pelvic inflammatory disease
  • Thyroid challenges
  • Ectopic pregnancy
  • Repeated miscarriages
